Waste chutes are particular useful in high rise buildings which have a refuse room designed at basement level which can be accessed by the refuse collection vehicle or by the waste operator. Modern waste chutes are composed of one chute, which hatches on every level allowing the residents to select one of 3 options (Residual Waste (black bag), Recyclables and Organics. The chute at the bottom is equipped with Electro-Hydraulic motorized sorter systems used for distributing materials from one chute into designated containers. Sorter Units are operated by the push buttons at intake doors. Tri-sorters are used for segregating three different types of wastes.
